A quick note

One of the options on 'eblogger' is a button marked 'monetise'. Hilarious.

Oh, hi

So, this is it. A week long 'exam essay' and the final assessment for the English side of my degree. Seems felicitous to get the old blog up and running again!

Just a brief one to comment on this return. Less than a year has past and i'm already chronically embarrassed by my earlier blogging. But, I suppose, if I really must try to make a career in the vague reedy waters of 'media and journalism' a blog is something of a must.

So here goes, blog mark II. Feel the commitment. Bigger and better than ever. Giving my (one) follower my all.

I mean, once I get to it. I have an 'exam essay' don't you know?

The Best Band of all time

OK so i know i didn't write yesterday, or, indeed, the day before. I'm awful aren't i? In my defense, i was away and wanted to chillax sans lappy so it was a conscious decision. I did not forget you though, loyal readers, never fear.

And so to today's post: the best band ever.

Yesterday, saw the final of the bbc show searching for the 'best rock and roll band' according to the votes of the general public. Having not watched the series at all prior to last night's show, i was somewhat shocked by the strength of my feelings toward the results, and since this blog is quite the forum of self indulgence, i shall share my feelings of indignation with you now:

NAMELY:

FREDDIE MERCURY as best frontman.
right.
RIGHT.

i dont have any ANY problem with wor fred, indeed, i genuinely think he is one of the finest performers ever to have graced the stage. And anyone who might debate that assertion should be directed instantly to THIS performance.

Of course it has been said a million times before, but the ability of one man to get an audience (not just the immediate audience but no doubt millions of people in front of their tv sets) COMPLETELY 'on side' within seconds...that's quite something. It's as if he were born for the stage and struts across it with a confidence that endears him, rather than alienates him, to the mass of thousands pulsating before him.

And just looking at this one performance you can vicariously feel that the audience know that they're part of something. (Quite literally in this case, with the performance reaching legendary status at 4.29s.)

BUT
BUT
BUT little blog readers

rock and roll band? queen? really? (imagine at this phrase that my voice is--pitch wise-- something along the lines of hugh grant in his 'wooooulllld we call her chubby' line in 'love actually')

Fredd-o, and (to a lesser extent) Queen, are really quite something but what they are NOT, is a 'rock and roll band'. say the rolling stones, say the who, say the clash EVEN. but not queen.
and as such i reach my final statement, my choice for the 'best front man of a rock and roll band'

and who is it? hm? hm hm hm?

who else?

bloody brilliant.

Hello Brooklyn

Just a short one today (well technically it is past midnight but sh!)

In a nostalgic mood, THIS is all i want to hear right now.

Even though it is SILLY and features LIL WAYNE every time i hear it my heart fills up with memories until i am bopping and beaming and sitting in an entirely different space and time.

That's all folks.

Hello Again

Believe it or not mes amis, I have managed to commit myself to another blog post today: two out of two, good work eh?
The topic of today's post: Cool girls in long floaty dresses.

As a roundabout way of explaining why i was led into this topic being my primary thoughts upon waking this morning, i will tell you that i fell asleep reading Wuthering Heights last night. Bizzarely, i never read this novel when i was a school aged whippersnapper despite being a general Brontë fan. (Did you know incidentally, that they weren't actually originally Brontës? They were called Brunty and their dad decided to mix it up with that cheeky accent, one can only imagine to make them sound a smidgen more exotic.)

Anyhoo for those of you who can't make this link already... Naturally upon waking up (from a dream where me and Antonio Banderas danced to 'Buenos Aires' from Evita- AMAZING) and delving back into the novel to finish volume II, i decided to mark the occasion with a youtube watch of Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights. In the 3.43s for which i watched this video i was converted into believing all that i wanted to do in life was wear long floating gowns, letting my hair contort into a style medusa would enjoy, and run barefoot in the woods.

In order to further this conviction, I followed this video up with Babooshka: I had forgotten that this video (although not the song, in my opinion) is EVEN BETTER. The leotard, the veil, the DOUBLE BASS and the casual warrior costume... the 'mirror' effect on the double bass at 1.43, although ridiculous in terms of technical merit, is actually fantastically effective in its retro glory. Ah, Kate.

I moved on to consider what modern day figures represent the same kind of art meets fashion meets ethereal wonder. Whilst I can acknowledge that Lady Gaga does some fantastically eccentric things, i have to admit that it is undoubtedly Florence Welch who really gets the 'Cool girls wearing floaty dresses' crown.

And so i leave you all with this, listen and enjoy while i prepare a wreath of flowers for my head, drape myself in some bed sheets and go for a run around the rainy fields of England.

Bisous.

Hello Summer

(I hope you like this friendly little summer pic i took in Parc Monceau yesterday! I took it on my iPhone using new app 'Hipstomatic'. Well worth downloading if you are looking to achieve the indie cool of the lomo without any actual effort/photography skills. Hello you lazy hipsters.)

On this beautiful bank holiday there are two things occupying my mind: sunshine and summer plans. What better way to think of summer plans than by preemptive holiday shopping? I know you all agree my little rosettes. In celebration of the coming of summer and my recent arrival back to UK shores (UK stores?) I give you, my (primarily TOPPERS based) Summer obsessions...

1. This oversized denim shirt is a gem in terms of giving off that breezy summer look with zero effort. I just bought one yesterday and am currently crossed legged on my bed rocking it over black leggings and a white tee. It is comfy and it make me feel a bit like a rancher, but not in a miley cyrus in that film she was in (not the one where she is running around in the sea with that hottie, the one where she goes home and speaks all southern and rides a horse) way. Thank God.

2. Topshop make-up just recently hit the shelves. Although in my opinion the jury is still out on the actual make-up products, i am ALL OVER the cheap and cheerful nail varnishes. Any pastel matte shades are good but this turquoise number is my particular fave.

3. Speaking of pastels, has anyone ever not wanted this Miu Miu summer number?

4. In terms of wear-ability and super trendiness, these strappy numbers by oh so trendy French brand The Kooples are also a wise investment for this summer. And by 'wise investment' I obviously mean 'way in which i shall fritter away my student loan'.

I think that is all for today, as i warned you, the sunshine outside is sparkling through my velux winderz, drawing me outside, so that will be all for now. I hope you enjoyed this first post, even if it was entirely clothing based (not my original intention). Keep on Reading, and let me know what you think!
